Best show I've ever seen.
Just started watching this, but I'm already in love with it.  Danny and I quote Gloria all the time now.

Jenae's Baby Shower!

This weekend we threw a baby shower for Jenae!
I tried to get a picture of everyone, so if I didn't manage to get you, I'm sorry!

So cute, right? Can't wait for the next one!

30 Days of Blogging: Days 27 and 28

Sorry I missed yesterday, it was a bit crazy over here (in a good, lots-of-fun sort of way)!

Day 27: My day job vs. my passion.

During the day, I answer telephones.  I smile at people.  I scan a lot of things.  Sometimes I file.  It's far from anyone's dream job, but I am grateful to have it.

My passion is literature.  Talking about it, learning about it, and creating it.  I get so excited when I see a clean page, waithing for me to make its mark, or when I hear the sound of my keys click-clacking away as I type something new.  I've mentioned my book a few times.  I don't know if it really deserves to be called that yet.  It's a few pages, if that.  All random scenes that have come at different times since I started it in 2007--maybe 2008?  It's about growing up--how original, I know, a coming of age story!  But I think there's a reason we keep coming back to that plot.  We've all had to grow up at some point, and I think we're all constantly growing and learning.  I think that novels are a way that help us to see that there's a point to all those "character-building" experiences we go through.  That at some point, we emerge a complete, whole human being--or at least a little closer to becoming a complete, whole human being.  We're all works in progress, and it's comforting to us to see that echoed in the written word.  That's just my opinion.
Honestly, my book is not the greatest (although my old roommates beg to differ), but maybe with a few edits, a lot of work, and probably some tears, I'll end up with a complete, finished novel.  We'll see.

Day 28: cruise a thesaurus and pick out ten words I like the sound of

1. aplomb
2. debauchery
3. effulgence
4. foozle
5. invective
6. oscillation
7. percolate
8. precocious
9.ubiquitous
10.  whippersnapper

30 Days of Blogging: Day 26

I can't believe I'm so close to finishing this 30 Days challenge.  Where did February go again?  What was I even doing this last month?  Who knows.

10 things I am thankful for:

1. My husband.  I lucked out in this department, seriously.  I can't say it enough.
2. My Savior.  Always there for me, even after I ignore Him.  And always with open arms and a way back.
3. My "goodly parents."  Thanks Mom and Dad!  My parents are the bomb.com, if you haven't picked up on that yet.  While we're on this topic, we'll throw my Grammie in here too, because she phenom.  (Yeah, I just abbreviated phenomenal.  It's ok.)
4. My kindred spirits.  Ellen, my old roomies, both the C/Katherines, and Miss Lyse.  My husband is in this list too, but I already mentioned him.
5. Music, art, literature, fashion, CULTURE, and the history of it.  I love the creative capabilities of the human spirit.
6. My job.  It's nice to have an income, something to do during the day, and wonderfully pleasant people to work with.
7. For the beauty of the earth.  For the sky and the beach and the smell after it rains.  For Spanish moss hanging from trees, long roads to nowhere, and weeping willows.  For mountains and grassy fields and ...DOUBLE RAINBOWS ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE SKY.
8. For indoor plumbing.  Not even joking.  I know I reminisce and and wish I lived in a different time period, but this is one thing I'm not willing to give up.
9. For my college education.  Even though it didn't really land me a career.  It was worth it.
10. For people who care about what I have to say.  Maybe you find me inspiring, maybe I make you laugh, or maybe you just feel like saying the same things and you're glad someone agrees with you.

Obviously this list isn't very comprehensive, but there's my ten.  Goodnight friends.

30 Days of Blogging: Day 25

In my purse.

I'm kind of funny about purses.  I probably switch off which one I'm using once a month.  Currently, I'm on my Mickey Mouse Dooney&Bourke Grammie got me for Christmas.  This is the first brand name purse I've ever had, and probably the most "grown-up."

But no matter the purse I'm using, I probably have the same things in it.

The usual suspects:
My wallet.
My phone.
Chapstick.
A pen.
My thumbdrive.
Lotion.
Gum. (I'm out!)
My keys.
A book (Little Women at the moment--rereading it for bookclub).
My little notebook.

I also used to carry concealer/foundation, but I hardly ever actually used it, so it got booted to the curb.  As did my old camera.  My new camera can't fit all it's awesomeness in any of my purses now, which is ok.

While we're on the topic, I'd really like a big leather bag, with lots of compartments.  If you see a cool/cheap one, let me know. =]

30 Days of Blogging: Day 24

Favorite quote or verse of scripture.

"And when you get down to it, Lily, that's the only purpose grand enough for human life.  Not just to love, but to persist in love."
--Sue Monk Kidd, The Secret Life of Bees

ZOO

Fun fact: I love the zoo!  If we're friends on facebook, you already knew that.  I really do though!  When I was growing up in San Diego, my whole family (cousins, grandparents, aunts, uncles) had passes, and we would go all the time.  Some of my favorite memories are kickin' it at the zoo with the family.  Naturally, I've been wanting to go to the zoo basically since I figured out the LA zoo was only 20 minutes away.

My only complaint is that LA should seriously reconsider redoing the entrance to the parking lot--it took us like 30 minutes to get into the parking lot, and there were still plenty of spots.  There's only one entrance to the lot, and it's one lane.  P.S. That one lane road that leads to the zoo also has like four freeway exits emptying out into it.  YAY FOR LA CITY PLANNING!!!  Other than that, the day was perfect.

Me and my zebra friends.

Just havin' a good time.

Orangutans always want to be my friends.

King of the world!

Apparently, lions sleep 20 hours a day.  Ain't that the life?

This is an okapi.  I pointed it out to Dan and somebody asked if I was a zoologist because I knew what it was.

The giraffes were definitely the coolest exhibit.

Dan loves the zoo too!  (Secretly!)

Isn't he so cuddly looking??

I'm the hip-hopapotamus, my lyrics are bottomless.

You wouldn't want to run into this guy in a dark alley!

These aren't giant foxes, but they are maned wolves from Brazil!

Dan checkin' out the Elephants of Asia exhibit.  And its Jurassic Park fence.
