I remember always getting so excited when my mom would make these every October. It was one of those recipes I had to take with me when I went to college...and one that quickly became a favorite of my roommates. Sometimes, we couldn't even wait for them to cool off, and would just scoop up the warm gooey goodness by the spoonful. When I started dating Danny, we made them a few times, and now they're an October tradition in our family too! I thought I'd share the wealth with all of you, since I ate these too fast to actually share them with anyone else in real life. (Just kidding, we brought some up to share with Dan's family.)
Butterscotch |
Peanut Butter |
Double Delicious Halloween Bars
1/2 cup of butter
1/2 cup graham cracker crumbs
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 (12 oz) pack chocolate chips
1/2 cup graham cracker crumbs
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 (12 oz) pack chocolate chips
1 cup peanut butter or butterscotch chips
Pre-heat oven to 350. Melt butter in 9x13 dish. Sprinkle crumbs over butter. Pour sweetened condensed milk over crumbs. Top with the chips, first chocolate, then peanut butter or butterscotch. Press down firmly. Bake 25-30 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool, then cut into bars.
A few quick notes: I kind of eyeball it with the chips. Just make sure there's an evenly distributed spread.
I also like to do one half of my pan peanut butter, and one half butterscotch. People tend to love one more than the other, and I always feel bad if someone is getting left out.
On that note, this last time I noticed that the butterscotch bakes A LOT faster than the peanut butter. That meant that while my peanut butter ones came out perfect, the butterscotch was all burned and crunchy on the edges. If it makes you sad to throw away and waste the edges, I'd recommend doing two 9x9 pans...or just being more decisive than me and choosing peanut butter OR butterscotch.
I love making these, they always remind of me Halloween as a kid! Speaking of Halloween as a kid, here is a sneak peak of London's costume this year. She's going as her favorite Disney character, if you can guess who that is. ;)

We made these last night, and OH MY GOSH. Jared will be lucky if there's any left when he gets home today!
I made these and shared with our co-workers at the Church Service Mission Office...they were a big hit - gone in a flash!
These look amazing...we have a desert and chili cook off in our ward this Saturday and I may just have to make these!
