Happy Heart!

My best friend is married!!  The past week was a bit of a whirlwind with all the wedding preparations, but life is always fun with Ellen, even when there are a few minor meltdowns.  ;) I don't have words for how much I love this girl!!  She is like a sister to me.  Shrimpy and Belchy forever!!!

Trying to be sneaky and capture awkward moments at the rehearsal dinner...

Introducing the other bridesmaids to clapping alley in St. Augustine

Enjoying our fudge buckets for breakfast! (Ellen the bride and her cousin/Maid of Honor Emily)

This was our motto for the day before the wedding.
Sooo...I may have been a teensy, tiny bit emotional throughout the entire ceremony...well, let's be honest, it was more like the whole day, so I didn't really take any pictures.  Plus, I was part of the bridal party so picture taking wasn't exactly a possibility.  I did however snag a couple off of facebook.  I'm so beyond excited to see all the pictures that Amanda, the photographer caught.  I mean, check out the teaser one...

From Hey, I love You Photography.
Ellen waiting with her father before the ceremony.  Isn't she just stunning???
Man and Wife!

She's married!!
This little lady was so well behaved the whole time!!
Biggest Congratulations and a whole boat-load of well-wishes for Andrew and Ellen!  I can't think of a more happy or deserving couple.  I love you both!!

London and I are now in North Carolina for more adventures, so there will be lots more fun and exciting posts coming up.

P.S. If I stole YOUR picture off of facebook, and you don't want it on here, let me know and I will remove it.  Thanks!

Flashback Friday: How to take a Myspace Profile Picture

Remember Myspace??  Remember how every girl (and many guys) had a million pictures of themselves making the exact same face?  You'd click through their pictures and it was a different angle of them with kissy lips, throwing up gang signs, or maybe they were just half-naked (always a popular shot).
Once upon a sleepover, Ellen and I were discussing this phenomenon.  We wondered if maybe we were missing out on something, and decided to give it a try.  The majority of these photos have never seen the light of day.  Probably for good reason.  (And maybe some of those Myspace girls could learn a lesson here.)

I don't really remember what face we were portraying here.  It looks like someone punched me in the stomach.

And that's how we got all the boys in high school.

Pistachio Nut

I'm sorry we couldn't have breakfast before I left.
I hope that the meeting went well.
I miss your smile, and I miss your company.
I'm thinking of you on the train and I'm thinking about you when I'm busy.
I like you so much,
I like the jumpers you wear
I like your teeth
And I like when you cut your hair.

Getting drunk on Rose A,
Dark chocolate, roast dinners,
Number one would be indulgence,
Sending postcards, drawing pictures,
Always remembering.
Falling over, banging heads,
Holes in both our tights,
Bruises, both late,
I forget, but you always remember.

Perfume fresh,
Wooden floorboards,
Wardrobes, charity shops, and tube stops
Sisters, fights, tears and thoughts about the future.
But lets stick to the present
Like cello-tape wrapped up so tight.

I love thinking about you.
I've never laughed so hard,
Felt so good, like a child,
As free as a bird, a naked one.

Spray me with the hose when it's too hot in the summer
Sweaty, clammy hands.
Holding hands
So much crap in my bag.
Too many things, but we love keeping things:
Letters, pictures ripped out from magazines,
Photos, memories, broken bits of jewelry.
I'm convinced one day I will make this into something cool.

Makeup, dress-up
Tear and run down my face
Over my body, through my veins
Make my hair stand on ends
Give me goosebumps, confidence.
A secret, I feel safe and warm and I don't want to leave because
I'm back to when I was seven years old
Covered in glitter and smooth lines.

Scratch, jump, run, fall and we're back up.
Bread, I love eating bread.
I love when you draw something and it's not dead;
It moves off the page and round people's minds.
You make other people laugh,
But everything you do could make me cry.

I want to feel, be, live, breathe, touch, see, fall, eat
Make glue, rip, do, I want to be with you.
I haven't time for anybody else--
I want to move to our house in a field,
Just tell me when and I'll be there.
I'd drop everything for you;
You are my best friend.

I don't even have a boyfriend,
My mind is occupied,
My buzz is rocket high,
Above the moon and back again.
Who I love is you.
You are the most unpretentious,
The most fun, most exciting,
I want to spend most of my time with you
Because you are the most worthwhile,
You are the most clever, cute, and stupid,
Hungry, energetic, passionate, scared, interesting,
Like a film, made up person.

I want to drink cream, eat chocolate,
Get that nice surprise when the butter is unsalted,
Eat salt out of the packet,
Scream till I am blue in the face,
Meet French people, go to the pictures,
Show you my cobbled streets,
Meet everybody that you could ever meet,
Just so that they know that I am your best friend,
And that you belong to me.

Yes, I know you think she's cute and funny
But, actually she is not an I, she is a we.
A united nation of absolute nonsense,
A community, neighborhood watch
A fire station, a theme park, space, time and energy
Talent, beauty, my best friend.
They don't love you like I love you.

The End.
--Kate Nash.

This has been in my head the past few days.  I went through something of a Kate Nash obsession my sophomore year of college.  She was on repeat constantly in our apartment.  One of the three songs I know on guitar is hers.  I even cut my hair like her.  Her songs (and style) are awesome, but this poem is extra wonderful to me.  I hope everyone has a friend that immediately comes to mind when they read this.  I'm lucky enough to have a few.  Here's to kindred spirits.

P.S. I turn 22 in four days!

Days 4&5: Jacksonville

On Thursday we all crammed into my parents' suburban and drove the two hours to Jacksonville.  It was like a dream, rediscovering places I once knew.  There's just something so poetic about the trees and the river.  I know I romanticize it, but Florida is really where I came into my own.  How can I not romanticize a place where so much soul-searching and growing took place?  I think we all fall in love with places we grow, at least in some sense.

The first thing I did was have my mom drop me off at the home of my best friend/kindred spirit/other half, Miss Ellen West.  There was much giggling and jumping around and pure joy.  Ellen is such a great friend and we have been through so much together.  She is so inspiring and it's so wonderful to have a friend that completely and whole-y understands you.  My favorite thing about Ellen is that I can tell her anything, and not fear any sort of judgment.  Ever.  Or maybe it's that we can have a meaningful conversation about faith, or love, or family, or the future, and the next be doubled over in hysterics about some joke we just cracked.  I love her, but sometimes love just doesn't feel big enough a word, you know?  We're sisters.  I wish I had words to describe the seemingly infinite nature of our closeness and friendship, and the love and greatness I feel emanating from her, but I really can't find any.

We hung out at Ellen's house for a while, and I got to say hi to her parents (her mom was so cute, she just had to take a picture of us girls, together again!)  We tried to get a hold of Trey and Chris, but Trey had mixed up the dates I was coming and was in Georgia for the weekend, and Chris was in Daytona for that night.  But we decided to make the best of it and go to our "Secret Place", which really isn't that secret anymore.  Oh well.

Isn't he magical with his little blue tail?

We have no pupils!  Thanks Florida sunshine!
After our Secret Place fun, we went back to Ellen's house and I got to meet her boyfriend, Andrew.  He's a great guy, and I love seeing Ellen happy, so he's a keeper in my book.  We all waited for Dan to finish golfing with my dad, and then went on a cute double date to St. Augustine.  We had dinner at my and Ellen's personal favorite: Pizzalley's.  (It's pizza!  In an alley!)  We walked around a bit and went to some cool little art galleries.  We were going to get ice cream at Kilwin's because Ellen and I would always go there in high school, but they'd already closed for the evening.  Fortunately we found this great gelato shop that more than made up for our lost Kilwin's.  I wish I had taken more pictures, but these were the only ones I got.

Sitting on the comfiest couch ever in the most posh hotel lobby I've ever seen.

Ellen and Andrew.
It was such a fun evening, even when we had to walk down the dark, creepy street to get to our car.

The next day was full of more Ellen-filled fun, this time with a splash of Chris.  Dan went golfing with my dad again, and Ellen came and picked me up for round two!  Since we were close to my old house, we decided to go and see it.  They repainted it, so it looks completely different.  It was so sad to drive by and know we couldn't go in.  It felt weird, like an intrusion.  Plus somebody had stuck this giant stuffed leopard in one of the upstairs windows, and it's the first thing you see when you look at the house.  Weird.  We should have taken a picture, but we didn't want to look like stalkers.
We then drove to Chris' house (fortunately he woke up and got dressed for us like ten minutes before we walked in the door).  It was fun to see him and his mom.  We all did some catching up, and Chris told us all about our friends and all the haps of the past two years.  Life changes after high school, and definitely not always for the better.  It's sad to hear about some of the wasted of potential, and friends that have thrown their lives away.  It's hard to look on while they do that and not be able to do anything about it.  At the same time, it makes me grateful for choices I have made that may have not made me the coolest person, but have definitely helped my life turn out for the better.  And I'm so grateful to have faith in and a testimony of Christ, as well as for the support, love, and example of my parents.  I wish I could give those things to some friends, but it's something they have to desire for themselves first.  We went out to lunch with Chris and spent a little more time back at his house, where we watched MGMT music videos and played the story game.  I forgot to take any pictures.  Oops...

Ellen then drove me home and we had to say goodbye.  That's always so hard, but I know I'll see her again.  Probably not soon, but I know it'll happen.

The rest of the evening included a delicous homecooked meal (thanks Karie!) shared with family and friends, and a girls night out to do a little last minute shopping before Easter.  I love hangin' with my mom and her friends, especially when my mommy is buying me new clothes!
It was a good day.  Even though home can change, it's still home, and it will always have that charm that draws me in no matter how far away I am.

Patience is not one of my virtues.

FLORIDA FLORIDA FLORIDA FLORIDA.
FLORY-DUH FLORY-DUH FLORY-DUH.

Seriously the most beautiful place in the world.

The biggest reason I'm so excited to go back.

Ahhh...Trey's skunk hair.  Those were the good ol' days.

Greatest friendship the world has ever seen.

So close, yet so far.  Can March just end already so I can at least be in the same month?

30 Days of Blogging: Day 26

I can't believe I'm so close to finishing this 30 Days challenge.  Where did February go again?  What was I even doing this last month?  Who knows.

10 things I am thankful for:

1. My husband.  I lucked out in this department, seriously.  I can't say it enough.
2. My Savior.  Always there for me, even after I ignore Him.  And always with open arms and a way back.
3. My "goodly parents."  Thanks Mom and Dad!  My parents are the bomb.com, if you haven't picked up on that yet.  While we're on this topic, we'll throw my Grammie in here too, because she phenom.  (Yeah, I just abbreviated phenomenal.  It's ok.)
4. My kindred spirits.  Ellen, my old roomies, both the C/Katherines, and Miss Lyse.  My husband is in this list too, but I already mentioned him.
5. Music, art, literature, fashion, CULTURE, and the history of it.  I love the creative capabilities of the human spirit.
6. My job.  It's nice to have an income, something to do during the day, and wonderfully pleasant people to work with.
7. For the beauty of the earth.  For the sky and the beach and the smell after it rains.  For Spanish moss hanging from trees, long roads to nowhere, and weeping willows.  For mountains and grassy fields and ...DOUBLE RAINBOWS ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE SKY.
8. For indoor plumbing.  Not even joking.  I know I reminisce and and wish I lived in a different time period, but this is one thing I'm not willing to give up.
9. For my college education.  Even though it didn't really land me a career.  It was worth it.
10. For people who care about what I have to say.  Maybe you find me inspiring, maybe I make you laugh, or maybe you just feel like saying the same things and you're glad someone agrees with you.

Obviously this list isn't very comprehensive, but there's my ten.  Goodnight friends.

God: 2  Tumor:  0
My dearest friend in the whole wide world is an incredibly lucky/blessed person.  I could go on forever about all the reasons she is awesome and why I love her, but I right now I want to tell you how wonderful it is to just be able to have her here.  Ellen Jean West, you are incredible, strong, wonderful, lucky, funny, my favorite, smart, beautiful, and so, so blessed.  Through the way you live your life and the miracles that have occurred in it, you are such an example to me of faith.  I love you so much.  Ankle club fo' life.

We're hott, I know.

In other news, here is a picture of my cute street:
P.S.  If there has been a theme to the past week, it would have to be: Heavenly Father answers prayers, no matter how big or how small.  From tumors down to lost mail keys/cell phones.  I love it.

I'm a lover, not a fighter

The other night, I couldn't sleep.  It happens a lot, no biggie.  I decided that while I was waiting to get sleepy, I'd waste some time on Facebook.  I started reading all of my old messages.  Conclusion:  I have been so incredibly blessed.  Reading of old inside jokes, seemingly life-or-death drama, past mistakes, and awesome triumphs, I felt this overwhelming sense of love from all these people.  The Format lyrics came to mind "I love love."

I really do.  In every sense of the word.  Love.  With such a little word, it's so hard to comprehend how much it covers.  Sometimes it doesn't seem quite big enough.  I was having a conversation with my best friend Ellen the other day, and she said something along the lines of, "I love you.  But that doesn't even begin to express it."  Maybe it's just because it's Thanksgiving, but I am feeling an overwhelming sense of gratitude for the love in my life.  Love is seriously all around us if we just look.  Kinship, friendship, sisterhood, brotherhood, parental love, kindred spirits, soul mates, and the greatest of all--charity.  The important thing is we just need to look for it.  I forget that sometimes.  I get down on myself so easily, and begin to feel worthless.  But reading these messages from friends old and new, and I realized I'm not worthless.  I'm far from perfect, but I have been given so much, and there is still room to grow.

I love being in love, I don't care what it does to me.
If you've ever heard the song Inches and Failing, you know it's more about how relationships are prone to blow up in your face, due to the unpredictability of human emotion.  But this line just makes me think that even though investing our emotions and well-being into another's care can be dangerous--we are giving them the power to wound us--with that great risk we are allowing ourselves to experience greater joy.  Human connection, understanding, empathy, and charity are what this life is all about.  Allowing ourselves to love another, fully, makes all the downs of life worth it.  There are so many people who I love, fully, completely.  Love isn't a big enough word.  Neither is thank you, but that's all English has to offer at this moment.  I love love.  And I love you.

P.S. Another realization from reading all these messages, I have so many people rooting for me to write a book.  Not just any book, but the next great American novel or something.  Maybe I should get to work on that.

P.P.S. Dan, I love you the mostest.

Sometimes

We feel the need to squeeze humor out of life, so we don't feel so hopeless.  That way when really scary things are staring us in the face, we can stand tall and pretend like we're brave.  Like Simba in the Lion King, "I laugh in the face of danger: Ahahaha!"

Putting your trust in the Big Man Upstairs really shouldn't be that hard, when you think about it.  I mean, who knows better than He does?
So why is it so difficult for me right now?

This girl is the bravest person I know.
